Description

This pretty scarf is easy and quick to knit and is ideal for showing off those lovely gradient yarns. It can be knit in almost any yarn quality and made as big or as small as you like. The scarf is worked in colour blocks and set in a lovely frame with a picot border.

Following techniques are used to knit this shawl:
Knits and purls in rows, yarn overs and simple increases and decreases, picking up stitches, short rows and picot bind off.

Sizes vary according to the yarn weight you use and you can also choose to knit a broader or skinnier shawl.

The example seen in the pictures is made with 5ply Merino/Bamboo/Silk, on 3mm needles and measures 210cm/83in long and 25cm/10in broad.

What you need:

  • Either: Two contrasting gradient yarns (each ~ 250-320m/280-350yards fingering yarn– more for heavier yarn weights) for a medium sized shawl,
  • Or the same amount of solid colours the same weight, as you prefer.
  • One contrasting colour in the same yarn quality/weight (~ 300m/ 320yards/fingering weight)
  • One long (80-120cm/30-48in) cable needle, size matching to your yarn (for example 3mm for fingering yarns, 4mm for DK)
  • Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
